The group began in the summer of 1991 with four of us in a small studio above the old Crystal Market in Boulder.  We had no idea what we were doing; we just brought some instruments, showed up, and followed our instincts.  The experiences that we had in the group were interesting enough that we decided to keep doing it.  We found a studio that was better suited to our needs and met twice a month for 5 years.  The people came and went, but we had a core of about a dozen people who were regulars for a significant amount of time.  We usually had 5-10 people at any given meeting.  Then life took us all in different directions and the group dissolved.

In the summer of 2017, several of us from the original group felt the urge to start it up again, so we found a space and started meeting once a month.  We used a couple of different studios during this time.  This second iteration of the group met once a month for almost three years until Covid shut us down in March 2020.  If you do the math, between the two first iterations of the group, we probably done this about 150 times.

And now, in June of 2023, we are starting up again, this time at the Zen Center of Denver.  It will be very interesting to see how this version of the group evolves.  If there's one thing I've learned in all these years of doing this, it's that you never can predict what's going to happen in an improvisation, but it's usually interesting.
